Rock the Vote Party Spins Weekend Forward

White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner weekend got under way Thursday night, and the pretty, pretty people were all about shaking their groove things at Rock the Vote’s “Spin Room” fiesta at Heist.

The subterranean Dupont Circle hangout was packed with politically-connected operatives poured into skintight dresses and bespoke suits. Staff sported full sleeves (spotted some insanely intricate tats) and branded T-shirts proclaiming “We will be heard.”

Guest DJs laid down tracks with infinitely looping bass lines, feeding revelers a steady diet of thump that complemented the down-for-whatever vibe the party organizers had in mind.

Occupants of the tiniest VIP section in recorded history (single booth, demarcated by a velvet rope) sipped Ciroc vodka and scanned the sea of writhing supplicants for new recruits, while others made their own fun at the custom photo booth.

Featured refreshments included frosty longnecks of Flying Dog beers, a signature tequila-spiked cocktail and American flag-colored nibbles of airy cake smothered in sugary frosting.

The club was also decorated with various prints produced by local photojournalist Kris Connor, who has taken to chronicling the weird and wonderful intersection of politics and celebrity in an ongoing project dubbed “Po*li*raz*zi.

Most of the ladies present, however, seemed much more interested in the ballyhooed “swag bags” doled out to those willing to broadcast kind words or selfies of the awesome time they were having via Twitter.

Bags in hands, attendees would sift through the corporate-sponsored goodies. In the end, none seemed that enthralled with a haul that included designer hair care products, organic lip balm, iPhone screen protectors and a three-pack of the designer cupcakes.

But at least a couple were thrilled with one new accessory.

“This is a great beach bag,” one giftee told HOH, adding that she was looking forward to toting around Sofia Blanc de Blanc minis (canned sparkling wine) all summer long.
