Former Rep. Robert Dold, R-Ill, announced on Wednesday that he will officially run for Illinois’ 10th District, setting up a rematch in one of the state’s most competitive seats.

In a letter to supporters, the one-term Republican touted his moderate record and said he wants to head back to Washington to reach across party lines to solve problems. The letter was sent to supporters shortly after Roll Call reported that Dold was interviewing staffers to fill his campaign team.

“With deep reflection, and strong support from you, Danielle and our kids, my family and friends, I wanted to share with you first that I’ve made the decision to step forward and run in 2014 to represent the 10th District of Illinois,” Dold wrote in the letter.

Last cycle, Dold lost to now-Rep. Brad Schneider, D-Ill., by about 3,000 votes. The 10th District leans Democratic, and President Barack Obama won it with 57 percent last year.

Dold, a pest control business owner, was heavily recruited by the National Republican Congressional Committee to run again in the district, located north of Chicago.

Dold has $102,460 in cash on hand in his campaign account, according to online records from the Federal Election Commission.

Schneider raised $390,206 in the first quarter of 2013 and has $256,983 in cash on hand. He also reports $100,000 in debt.
