Capitals’ Loss Feeds D.C. Dysfunction Meme

It’s bad enough to lose a tough playoff series in game 7 at home. It’s worse when it’s become part of a pattern of playoff underachievement. But worst of all, the Washington Capitals are in danger of falling into a realm they likely don’t want: being part of the meme that Washington, D.C., is a place that can’t get it done.

As seen in the Washington Post’s D.C. Sports Bog, New York Rangers fans taunted the Verizon Center Caps faithful with the sign “Nothing Gets Done in Washington. Go NYR.”

That should send a chill down the spine of the Caps’ marketing crew. One thing you don’t want to be associated with is Washington dysfunction or Congress’s rock-bottom approval ratings.

The Caps lost, 5-0, on Monday night after leading the series 2-0. According to the Associated Press, since 1985 the Caps have lost nine playoff series “in which the club led either 2-0 or 3-1.”
