One Year Without Chuck Brown

Chuck Brown, the Godfather of Go-Go, died one year ago today, and fans of Washington’s home-grown sound and the man who made it what it is will gather at the Howard Theater tonight, along with the Chuck Brown All-Star Go-Go Tribute Band, to celebrate his life.

1taxation041601Joining the Tribute Band will be Jas Funk, Sugar Bear, Whiteboy, Buggs and Derrick from Vybe.

Doors open at 10 p.m. and the show starts at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $25.

The Washington Post marked the anniversary of Brown’s death with stories about the state of the art, as well as how his family and fans are holding up.

Go-Go has boomeranged around the DMV in the last few years, being hassled out to the suburbs by zealous guardians against the groove who targeted clubs in Washington, and then being hassled back into the District by suburban zealous guardians against the groove.
