House Committee to Consider Bills Ending Public Financing of Presidential Elections

The House Administration Committee will mark up on Tuesday several bills relating to ending public financing of presidential elections and party conventions, and the termination of the Election Assistance Commission.

The 11 a.m. committee meeting will mark up H.R. 94, “To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to Prohibit the Use of Public Funds for Political Party Conventions”; H.R. 95, “To Reduce Federal Spending and the Deficit by Terminating Taxpayer Financing of Presidential Election Campaigns and Party Conventions”; and H.R. 1994, “Election Assistance Commission Termination Act.”

The Campaign Legal Center, Americans for Campaign Reform, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, Common Cause, Democracy 21, Public Citizen and U.S. PIRG sent a letter to the committee today urging them to oppose the legislation. View letter.
