Independent Expenditures Hit Two Weeks Before Special Election

With two weeks to go before the June 25 Senate special election in Massachusetts, almost $750,000 in independent expenditures have just started to have an impact on the voters.

The Senate Majority PAC, a Democratic-aligned super PAC, reported it has paid $500,000 on June 7 to Waterfront Strategies for media buys as independent expenditures in Massachusetts opposing Gabriel Gomez. The report to the Federal Election Commission also indicated they paid $15,458 to Dixon/Davis Media Group LLC for the media production costs.

In other reports, the League of Conservation Voters Inc., a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, reported it paid Strategy Group Inc. $185,658 on June 7 for a series of mailers as independent expenditures supporting Edward J. Markey, D-Mass.

NextGen Committee reported it paid $17,000 on June 7 to American Values Network for an email campaign, Facebook ads, and website supporting Markey. The committee also paid $17,000 on June 7 to American Values Networks for an email campaign, Facebook ads, and website opposing Gabriel Gomez.

These are in addition to the media buys by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
