DCCC Leads NRCC in Fundraising and Debt Repayment in May

The Congressional campaign committees of the House Democrats and Republicans raised between $4.6 and $6.6 million during May and made substantial debt repayments, financial reports filed late today show.

The 

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee

 reported raising $6,608,517 and spending $5,487,460 during May, leaving $10,976,414 cash on hand on 5/31, and debts of $2,125,000. The committee raised $2.5 million in small unitemized contributions of $200 or less. The committee raised $2.5 million from itemized donors, with the largest amounts coming from Illinois and California. PACs and other committees gave $276,750. Joint fundraising committees transferred in $233,000. The campaign committees of members transferred in $581,060.

Selected major donors included Grover Connell ((president & CEO, The Connell Company, NJ) and Patricia ($64,800; Stewart Bainum Jr. (chair, Choice Hotels, MD) and Sandra ($64,600); Gloria Klutznick (artist, CO) and Robert (investor, CO) (50,000); Gordon Getty (philanthropist, CA) and Ann (interior designer, CA) $41,300); Peter Angelos (lawyer, MD) $32,400);

The committee made two loan repayments to Bank of America totaling $2 million. It also spent $732,847 on telemarketing; $511,395 on postage and mailing; $345,0905 on payroll, among other spending. The committee gave $50,853 to federal candidates and committees.

The committee paid $67,575 on 5/9 to Soneet Kapila, a Chapter 7 Trustee, at Meland Russin & Budwick, Miami, FL., for “Bankruptcy Trustee Settlement.” This may be relation to contributions made by Claudio Osorio and his wife Amarillis. News reports indicate other political committees have returned funds to the Trustee, including $270,000 from former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.

The 

National Republican Congressional Committee

 reported raising $4,696,548 and spending $3,981,355 during May, leaving $9,461,803 cash on hand as of 5/31, and debts of $4,750,000.

The committee raised $1.1 million from small individual contributions, and $1.3 million from itemized contributions.Joint fundraising committee gave $1.1 million. PACs and other committees gave $1.3 million. Most of the itemized contributions came from New York and Texas.

Selected major donors include Paul Estey (Nevada Restaurant Services, NV) and Patricia (restauranteur, Pere Antoines, NV) ($64,800); Kenny Trout (CEO, Mt. Vernon Investments, TX) and Lisa ($50,000); John Paulson (president, Paulson & Co, NY) and Jenica ($64,800); Linda McMahon (retired, CT) ($19,800); Kenneth Kies (managing director, Federal Policy Group, DC) ($32,400); among others.

The committee made a loan repayment of $1.5 million to Wells Fargo Bank. The committee spent $370,064 on payroll; $343,860 on postage; and $262,570 on fundraising calls.
