Rep. Edward J. Markey, D-Mass., leads by 10 points in a new poll released one day before the Bay State special election for Senate.

Markey took 52 percent in the Suffolk University survey, while Republican nominee Gabriel Gomez took 42 percent, and 4 percent of voters said they were still undecided.

With only hours before polls open on Tuesday, every public poll shows Markey leads the election to fill Secretary of State John Kerry’s former Senate seat.

But with memories of former Sen. Scott P. Brown’s victory in the 2010 Massachusetts special election, Democrats have not taken polling data or their voter registration advantage for granted.

Democrats have outspent Republicans on television by more than 2-to-1. In the past few weeks, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. have visited the Bay State to speak on Markey’s behalf.

The poll of 500 likely voters in the special was conducted June 19-22. It had a 4.4-point margin of error.
