Steve Stockman’s Semi-Automatic Happy Hour
Working for Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas, means not just talking the right-of-Ronald Reagan talk. You’ve got to walk it, too.
Which is why it should come as no surprise to anyone that members of Team Stockman — the man is raffling off a Bushmaster AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, after all — recently shared some bonding time at a local firing range.
Stockman spokesman Donny Ferguson confirmed that some of his office-mates — “Not everyone went. It was most of the interns and a couple of staffers,” he told HOH — made their way over to Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly, Va., on June 17 to squeeze off a few (hundred) rounds.
“Not sure who the best shot was, but all of our interns did well. They had nice, tight grouping and on the center of mass,” Ferguson said of a group that included both novice and seasoned shooters.
In keeping with Stockman’s gun giveaway (entries accepted through Wednesday), staff got up close and personal with the AR-15, the same type of weapon used in the mass shootings in Newtown, Conn., and Aurora, Colo.
Per Ferguson, the weapon is “very lightweight and easy to handle, which makes it popular among women as a personal defense device.”
No wonder Team Stockman trekked out to Chantilly on a Monday: that’s when Blue Ridge runs its “ladies night” deals.
