Ex-Miss America Raises Meager Sum for Primary Challenge #IL13

Former Miss America Erika Harold raised just $78,000 for her primary campaign against freshman Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Ill., in the second quarter, according to her recently filed fundraising report.

Her haul is hundreds of thousands of dollars less than Davis, who raised more than $450,000 in the second quarter and has more than $700,000 in the bank. Harold reported $62,000 in cash on hand, according to the report.

The 13th District race is expected to be one of the cycle’s most competitive contests. In 2012, Davis defeated his Democratic opponent by less than 1 point, and the congressman almost immediately became a top Democratic target for the 2014 midterms.

Democrats have recruited former judge Ann Callis to run against Davis and have billed her as a top recruit this cycle. She raised $225,000 in the second quarter and has $200,000 in cash on hand.

The 13th District is rated Tossup/Tilt Republican by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
