Ex-Rep. Margolies Last in Fundraising Race #PA13

State Sen. Daylin Leach raised more than $350,000 in the second quarter for the open-seat primary in the 13th District, putting him ahead of a crowded, four-candidate field of Democrats in the fundraising race.
Former Rep. Marjorie Margolies, D-Pa., reported that she raised $185,000 since she announced her comeback bid for Congress in May, the lowest sum out of the four candidates in the race.
Rep. Allyson Y. Schwartz, D-Pa., is running for governor in 2014, leaving a wide-open primary for her heavily Democratic district in southeastern Pennsylvania. Four Democrats have announced campaigns so far: Leach, Margolies, University of Pennsylvania Medical School professor Valerie Arkoosh and state Rep. Brendan Boyle.
Arkoosh announced she pulled in more than $285,000 in the second quarter, which runs from April through June. Boyle told PoliticsPA he raised $252,000.
The candidates have not filed their full reports — due today — with the Federal Election Commission, so it’s possible some of this money could be as a result of self-funding.
But the numbers are notable, too, because Margolies raised the least, despite counting some of the country’s top Democrats as her supporters.
House Minority Whip Steny H. Hoyer of Maryland endorsed her candidacy, plus Margolies is an ally of President Bill Clinton and his family. Margolies cast the deciding vote for Clinton’s deficit-reduction plan in the early 1990s — a decision that ultimately led to her defeat in 1994. Margolies’ son is also married to Chelsea Clinton.
The Democratic primary is in May 2014.
