Friday Night at the Movies: Henry Fonda or Eddie Murphy?

You won’t have to go far to see all that Hollywood can offer with its treatment of the nation’s capital, as Hill Center and Union Market will screen two great looks under the Dome tonight.

As part of its Hill Flicks series, Hill Center (921 Pennsylvania Ave. SE) will show “Advise and Consent” the 1962 film by Otto Preminger starring Henry Fonda about a contentious nomination process on Capitol Hill. This could be just what’s needed after a rough week in the Senate over executive nominees, no? Great scenes inside the Capitol, a rarity in film, also make it worth checking out.

If mid-century seriousness isn’t your thing, head to Union Market’s DC Drive-In, now in its second week and featuring Jonathan Lynn’s 1992 film “The Distinguished Gentleman,” starring Eddie Murphy as a small-time grifter who gets elected to Congress only to find out that he’s got nothing on the graft going down in D.C.

Both movies show that, in Washington, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Enjoy!
