Rep. Raúl R. Labrador, R-Idaho, will announce his future political plans at a news conference on Wednesday, according to a local report.

Labrador, a tea party firebrand who has represented Idaho’s 1st District since 2010, is rumored to be eyeing a challenge to Gem State GOP Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter, but has not yet made his plans known.

According to the Idaho Statesman, Labrador gave no indication about whether he is running for governor or for re-election in the 1st District. Labrador did not give a time or location for the news conference either, the Statesman reported.

If Labrador does choose to run for governor, his safe Republican House seat would likely attract a host of seasoned GOP politicians. Republican operatives mentioned Lt. Gov. David Leroy and state House Majority Leader Mike Moyle as potential candidates in interviews with CQ Roll Call in June.

Idaho’s 1st District is rated a Safe Republican contest by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call. GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney carried the district by a 33-point margin in 2012.
