Fundraising Methods Vary, but DCCC and NRCC Results Are the Same
The two congressional campaign committees reported similar fundraising results for July, about $4.4 million each, but the Democrats raised almost twice as much from small donors, while the Republicans transferred in more from the fundraising accounts of their members of Congress.
The National Republican Congressional Committee reported receipts of $4,444,467 and disbursements of $3,648,220 during July, leaving $12,065,016 cash on hand as of July 31, with debts of $750,000.
The committee raised $1,090,467 from contributions of $200 or less and itemized $690,142 contributions from individuals giving more than $200. PACs and other committees gave $1,817,772. Boehner for Speaker transferred in $665,253, and the Ryan-NRCC Victory committee transferred in $41,256.
Major individual donors giving $32,400 included: Carl Lindner (executive, American Financial Corp., Ohio); Edyth Lindner (homemaker, Ohio); S. Lindner (executive, American Financial Corp., Ohio); Robert Hillis (CEO, Direct Supply Inc., Wis.); Dale Behan (CEO, Western Company of Texas); Harrison Lefrak (developer, Florida); Michael Regan (attorney, 20th Century Fox, Va.); among others.
Major committee givers included: Friends of John Boehner $565,000; Ryan for Congress $200,000; Friends of Doc Hastings $125,000; among others.
The committee spent $366,543 on payroll; $263,454 on fundraising phone calls; $214,415 on postage; $174,241 on list rental; and $172,977 on printing; among others. The committee repaid $1,500,000 on an outstanding loan from Wells Fargo Bank.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee reported receipts of $4,360,914 and disbursements of $2,955,045 in July, leaving $14,590,536 cash on hand as of July 31, and no debts owed.
The committee raised $1,948,127 from individuals giving $200 or less, and itemized $1,687,036 from individuals giving more than $200. PACs and other committees gave $129,864. Hoyer for Congress gave $100,000 and Friends of Jim Clyburn gave $75,000.
