As Obama Pushes Gun Rules, NRA PAC War Chest Tops $10 Million

It’s understandable that the Obama administration has taken new executive actions on gun control, since the war chest of the NRA PAC is estimated to be over the $10 million mark in cash on hand.

Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. announced the president’s action to curb the import of military surplus weapons and to propose a federal rule to close a current loophole that allows those who would be ineligible to pass a background check to register certain guns to a corporation or trust. The administration feels these actions could be taken without action by Congress.

Congress is usually the battleground where the National Rifle Association does well. It contributes heavily to members of Congress, makes large independent expenditures for and against candidates and mobilizes its membership to contact their member of Congress. New gun control efforts have been stalled in Congress.

Based on the PAC’s monthly receipts, Political MoneyLine estimates that the National Rifle Association of America Political Victory Fund has more than $10 million cash on hand at the end of August. The PAC reported it had $9,332,152 cash on hand at the end of July, during which they raised $1.2 million. In May and June the PAC raised more than $750,000 each month.
