Speaker John A. Boehner is still not satisfied with President Barack Obama’s level of Congressional outreach on Syria.

Even after Obama called Boehner on Thursday afternoon to brief him on the status of deliberations over Syria, the Ohio Republican — who sent the president a lengthy list of questions about Syria Wednesday — said the president needs to do more before authorizing any military strikes against the war-torn country.

“During the call, the speaker sought answers to concerns outlined in his letter to the president yesterday, including the legal justification for any military strike, the policy and precedent such a response would set, and the objectives and strategy for any potential action,” Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck wrote in a press release.

“Only the president can answer these questions, and it is clear that further dialogue and consultation with Congress, as well as communication with the American public, will be needed,” Buck wrote.

Obama has made a soft attempt to keep Congress in the loop as the prospect of military intervention in Syria ramps up. The White House plans to hold an unclassified briefing via telephone with select Congressional leaders on Thursday evening.
