The Virginian-Pilot reports that “the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt returned to Norfolk Naval Station today after four years in the shipyard.”

“The ship entered Newport News Shipbuilding in 2009 for its midlife upgrade and nuclear refueling, a process that required more than 24 million man hours of work. Workers upgraded the ship’s infrastructure and modernized its combat systems.”

“The upgrades and refueling are expected to carry the ship through the remaining 23 years of its 50-year service life.”

“The Roosevelt is the fourth Nimitz-class aircraft carrier to complete its midlife refueling at the Huntington Ingalls Industries shipyard in Newport News. The aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln entered the shipyard earlier this year to begin its midlife overhaul.”
