Georgia Republican Senate candidate Karen Handel launched a radio spot Thursday contrasting her position on intervention in Syria with that of Michelle Nunn, the likely Democratic nominee.

Nunn said last week that she would support a “limited, defined and strategic military action” in Syria. After noting in her 60-second spot that she “would vote against the authorization of military force,” Handel refers to Nunn as “just another vote for Harry Reid or Barack Obama.”

Although the contrast ad makes no mention of Handel’s many primary opponents — Reps. Paul Broun, Jack Kingston and Phil Gingrey — its targeted audience is their respective bases of support. Handel spokesman Dan McLagan said the ad is airing on country and news talk stations in the Atlanta, Athens and Savannah media markets, which just happens to place it within her three opponents’ congressional districts.

Handel is the former Georgia secretary of state. This is her second radio spot, following an advertisement about health care.

The Republican primary currently consists of seven candidates, making it one of the most unpredictable nomination fights in the country. They are running to replace retiring GOP Sen. Saxby Chambliss.

This is a top pickup opportunity for Democrats. The race is currently rated Republican Favored by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
