Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. will raise money for veteran Jim Mowrer, a Democrat looking to oust Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, in 2014, according to a local news source.

The fundraiser is scheduled to take place Sept. 24 in Washington, D.C., at the home of freshman Rep. John Delaney, D-Md., reported the Des Moines Register.

Mowrer, 27, worked on Biden’s presidential campaign in 2007 as his Iowa veterans director. Mowrer is also friends with Biden’s son, Beau. The two met in Baghdad when they worked at Camp Victory.

Mowrer is looking to unseat King in Iowa’s 4th District, the most conservative of the Hawkeye State’s four House seats. GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney carried the district with 53 percent in 2012.

Last cycle, King staved off a challenge from former Iowa first lady Christie Vilsack by 8 points.

Iowa’s 4th District is rated a Safe Republican contest by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
