Democrat Runs For House Seat in Southern Indiana

Former state Rep. Bill Bailey, a Democrat, is scheduled to announce his candidacy against Rep. Todd Young, R-Ind., in the Hoosier State’s 9th District.

On Wednesday, Bailey will make his announcement in two population centers in the southern Indiana district: the Social Security Administration offices in Bloomington and New Albany.

Until recently, the 9th District played host to a series of competitive House races. But after redistricting in 2012, state Republicans redrew the district’s boundaries to shore up GOP voters in the district.

Young won re-election by a 10-point margin last year. Mitt Romney carried the district by a 16-point margin.

The race is rated Safe Republican by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
