House and Senate officials are continuing to tweak the door schedule around the Capitol, adding more access points to accommodate staff and visitors.

Beginning Thursday morning, the Dirksen and Russell Senate office buildings will have additional entrances open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The southwest door of Dirksen and the lower Delaware Avenue and C Street Northeast door to Russell will both be opened, according to Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Terry Gainer, in addition to the access points open since Oct. 1.

Gainer said he anticipates the change will “help staff and official visitors.”

After long lines on the first day of the shutdown, the House doubled the number of open access points to House office buildings Wednesday morning. Two doors were open at each House office building, plus the Cannon garage. House Sergeant-at-Arms Paul Irving notified members and staff of the change in a letter.

Lines around Capitol Hill appeared shorter following the changes.

Capitol Police forces have remained at full protective strength since the shutdown went into effect on Oct. 1.
