Injured Officer Released From Hospital, Told Reid He Will Be Fine (Updated)
Updated 10:10 p.m. | A Capitol Police officer injured in the course of Thursday afternoon’s incident near the Capitol has been treated and released from a D.C. hospital.
MedStar Washington Hospital Center made the announcement late Thursday. Earlier, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid spoke by phone with the officer injured during Thursday’s chase incident, the Nevada Democrat’s office confirmed.
“The only thing I do every day is to make sure you and everyone who works up here is safe,” the officer told Reid, according to the majority leader’s spokesman.
The officer told Reid that he would be fine. The officer was airlifted from the Capitol after sustaining injuries in a crash with a female suspect’s car in today’s incident.
During his closing remarks on the Senate floor, Reid commended the injured officer and the Capitol Police for their efforts to protect senators and the Capitol community.
