EMILY’s List, a group that boosts female Democratic candidates who support abortion rights, has endorsed two candidates in competitive House races in Maine and California.

On Wednesday, the organization offered their support to state Sen. Emily Cain, running in Maine’s 2nd District, and former Capitol Hill aide Amanda Renteria, running in California’s 21st District.

Cain is running in the open-seat contest to replace Rep. Michael H. Michaud, D-Maine, who is running for governor in the Pine Tree State. She faces a crowded Democratic primary field in Maine’s 2nd District, which is rated a Democrat Favored contest by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.

“Emily has defended women’s access to healthcare, fought to increase opportunities in education, and spearheaded ethics reforms in Augusta, and the EMILY’s List community — now more than two million members strong — is thrilled to help her become the first Democratic woman elected to Maine’s 2nd congressional district,” EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock said in a news release.

Renteria, a former chief of staff to Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., is running against freshman GOP Rep. David Valadao. She faces a competitive race in a district that President Barack Obama carried by 11 points in 2012. The California 21st is rated a Toss-up/Tilt Republican contest by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.

“As the first Latina Chief of Staff in the history of the U.S. Senate, Amanda worked tirelessly to spearhead critical healthcare, agricultural, and economic policies,” Schriock said in the news release.
