Michigan Rep. Gary Peters announced that he will report raising more than $1 million in the third quarter, his second straight million-dollar quarter since launching a bid for Senate.

The Democrat, who is vying for the seat of retiring Democratic Sen. Carl Levin, had nearly $2.5 million in cash on hand as of Sept. 30. That total keeps him ahead of his potential Republican opponent, former Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, who self-funded about half of her first fundraising quarter since entering the race.

Land previously announced bringing in about $2 million last quarter, including a $1 million personal investment, and said she had about $2 million left in the bank. With several other Republicans passing on the race in this Democratic-leaning state, Land has the angle on becoming the GOP nominee.

“We are so proud of our grassroots team, and the incredible support and momentum for Gary only continues to grow,” Peters campaign manager Julie Petrick said.

The race is currently rated Safe Democrat by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
