Obamacare Is All Anyone Wants to Talk About

Guess that shutdown backlash didn’t really take.

Not only are House and Senate Republicans still busily loading up the congressional hopper with all kinds of delaying tactics against the polarizing Affordable Care Act, now President Barack Obama’s signature health care law has become the centerpiece of campy political spots on both sides of the aisle.

The Colorado Consumer Health Insurance Initiative and ProgressNow Colorado Tuesday rolled out a series of “Got Insurance?” plugs modeled after the dairy industry’s iconic ads.

Several images feature the same set of dudes doing potentially life-threatening things (guzzling beer while doing a keg stand, recovering from a purportedly jarring bike wreck).

Others focus on women, including an expectant mother and another who’ll apparently never scrimp when it comes to caring for a sickly child.

Of course, the fact that said men appear in different ads under different identities/purported lifestyles calls into question if any of the people featured in the social-media bait are the genuine articles, or if they’re merely marketing artifice.

Regardless, the Colorado partners stated online that they expect to keep the campaign going through at least Dec. 15 (the current cut-off for those expecting health care coverage as of Jan. 1, 2014), but are considering extending the meme through March 31.

Meanwhile, Koch-brothers-funded Generation Opportunity has decided to honor the Canadian computer contractor tapped to helm the administration’s woefully inadequate health insurance registry.

“CGI is recognized for doing more than anyone to date to save young people from the increased costs and privacy invasions of Obamacare,” the anti-government group jeered in a news release.

“Generation Opportunity congratulates all the worthy candidates, including the runner-up, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. … After all, Sebelius had the foresight to hire CGI knowing they had a track record of protecting patients from government-run health care,” GO quipped in its double-barreled attack.
