Obama: I’m ‘Very Proud’ of John Tierney
President Barack Obama praised embattled Democratic Rep. John F. Tierney at a fundraiser held at a private residence near Boston.
The Wednesday event sought to raise funds for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee at a private home in Weston, Mass. According to a White House transcript, Obama called out Tierney to praise his work in Congress during his remarks.
“Your own Congressman John Tierney is here,” Obama said. “Where’s John? Doing a great job. Very proud of him.”
Until recently, Tierney was under investigation for allegedly improperly reporting income from his wife and brother-in-law. The House Ethics Committee cleared him of any wrongdoing last month.
Last cycle, Tierney squeaked out a win over his Republican opponent, former state Sen. Richard Tisei, by a 1-point margin.
This cycle, Tierney faces a primary challenge from veteran Seth Moulton, and Tisei is eying a rematch. He launched an exploratory committee for the seat earlier this week.
Massachusetts’ 6th District is rated a Lean Democrat contest by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
