Frelinghuysen In Line to Chair Defense Appropriations Subcommittee

Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen, R-N.J., could fill the chairmanship caused by the death of Rep. Bill Young, R-Fla., two weeks ago. Frelinghuysen is now the top ranking Republican on the Defense subcommittee. He has been on the Appropriations Committee since he came to Congress in 1995.

Since the 1981-1982 cycle he has raised $9.7 million for his campaigns, including $3.4 million from PACs and other committees. As of 9/30 his principal campaign committee had $310,905 cash on hand. The committee also listed debts outstanding of $441,079 that are owed to him for a loan to the 1982 campaign.
In the 2012 cycle, defense PACs gave $104,500 to his campaign. Many defense PAC gave the maximum $10,000 in the 2012 cycle, including BAE Systems Inc. PAC, DRS Technologies Inc. Good Government Fund, Employees of Northrop Grumman Corporation PAC, Honeywell International PAC, Lockheed Martin Corporation Employees’ PAC, Raytheon Company PAC, and United Technologies Corporation PAC. In the 2013-2014 cycle, SAIC Voluntary PAC has already maxed out at $10,000.

Currently, Frelinghuysen is chairman of the Appropriations’ subcommittee on Energy and Water and has jurisdiction over the Corps of Engineers, which was vital to the New Jersey recovery efforts after Superstorm Sandy. He also sits on the Appropriations’ subcommittee on Homeland Security, which sets funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
His New Jersey 11th Congressional district includes the Army’s Picatinny Arsenal, the headquarters of Honeywell International in Morristown, and the headquarters or facilities of many other Fortune 500 companies.
