The parent company of the firm that helped build and launch the government’s website for the new health insurance program has a PAC that has given to many members of Congress, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

So far in 2013, the UnitedHealth Group Inc. PAC has given to 78 members of Congress. The UnitedHealth Group Inc. PAC reported it has raised $499,183 during the first nine months of 2013, and given out $382,250 to candidates and political committees, with 56% going to Republicans. The PAC has given $193,000 directly to 78 candidates. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio was given $5,000; House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., was given $5,000.

A search for contributions by the company itself during the 2011-2012 shows $800,000 given to the Republican Governors Association; $625,250 to the Democratic Governors Association; $125,000 to the Republican State Leadership Committee – RSLC; $75,000 to the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee; $70,000 to the Democratic Attorney’s General Association; and $15,000 to the Fund for American Opportunity – Educational & State Accounts.

It is interesting to note the company has not given any contributions to Section 527 organizations so far in 2013.

UnitedHealth owns Quality Software Services Inc., which helped build the government’s HealthCare.gov website, along with another contractor, CGI Federal.
