A member of the U.S. House of Representatives, who is running for the U.S. Senate, has added another fundraising arm to collect larger contributions and redirect funds to other Members of Congress and candidates.

Rep. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., has registered his new leadership PAC, Rangers Lead The Way. Cotton served in the Army and attended the Ranger school and Army Airborne school. He is running for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark.

Leadership PACs, or personal PACs, primarily collect contributions from PACs of interest groups, and individuals, such as Washington lobbyists and consultants. A multi-candidate interest group PAC can give $5,000 each year to a member’s personal PAC, as compared to giving only $5,000 per election to a member’s campaign committee. Individuals can give $5,000 each year to a member’s personal PAC, as compared to giving $2,600 per election to a member’s campaign committee.

Other Members of Congress also recently registered personal PACs. Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., registered American Leadership Now (ALN PAC). Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., registered the North Carolina Leadership Fund.
