It’s official: The House Ethics Committee has closed its investigation into former Rep. Trey Radel’s conviction for cocaine possession, as expected .  

“The Investigative Subcommittee began its investigation, but was unable to complete its work before Representative Radel resigned from the House on January 27, 2014,” the members of the bipartisan committee said in a statement. “As a consequence, the Investigative Subcommittee no longer has jurisdiction over him.  

“This statement constitutes the Investigative Subcommittee’s final action regarding this matter,” the memo concluded.  

It’s the usual practice for the panel to drop investigations when lawmakers quit, although some critics had called on the committee to continue investigating whether Radel shared cocaine with congressional staffers or other members of Congress.
