Campaign finance lawyers have been busy in the last few months providing legal services to members of Congress, Super PACs, and presidential campaigns.  

Several Senate and House members  dealt with serious campaign finance legal questions and investigations during the last quarter of 2013. Here are a few of the members of Congress and political organizations that paid for legal services, many relating to investigations and inquiries by the House and Senate Ethics Committees, the Federal Election Commission, and others.  

Rep. Michael Grimm , R-N.Y., was billed $416,241 by Patton Boggs LLP. Sen. Robert Menendez , D-N.J., paid $406,240 in legal fees, including $250,000 to McDermott Will & Emery, and $156,240 to Perkins Coie LLP. Rep. David Valadao , R-Calif., paid $82,850 to Patton Boggs LLP.  

Rep. Tim Bishop , D-N.Y., paid $40,000 to Dechert LLP. Rep. Rob Andrews , D-N.J., paid $18,830 for legal services, including from the Brand Law Group ($9,852) and Cooper Levenson April Niedelman & Wagenheim ($8,979). Rep. Bill Owens , D-N.Y. paid $15,000 to Perkins Coie LLP and $14,418 to Vinson & Elkins LLP. Former Rep. Trey Radel , R-Fla., paid $14,964 to Bracewell & Giuliani.  

Rep. Gregory Meeks , D-N.Y., paid $13,285 for legal services, including Perkins Coie LLP ($7,785); Arent Fox LLP ($3,000); Wiltshire & Grannis LLP ($2,000); and Steptoe & Johnson LLP ($500). Rep. Charles Rangel  paid George Henry $9,000. Rep. Chaka Fattah , D-Pa., paid $6,190 to Post Schell. Rep. Aaron Schock , R-Ill., paid the Law Office of John Fogarty $1,725. Two PACs of former Rep. Allen West , R-Fla., paid Holtzman Vogel Josefiak PLLC $50,436.  

Super PACs  dealt with legal issues as well during the last six months of 2013.  

Perkins Coie LLP  was paid by several Democratic super PACs, including $128,500 by the Senate Majority PAC; $69,779 by American Bridge 21st Century; $60,000 by Battleground Texas; $50,000 by House Majority PAC; $22,000 by Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC, the PAC of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz.  

Holtzman Vogel Josefiak  PLLC  was paid by several Republican super PACs, including $75,118 by American Crossroads; $45,213 by Kentuckians for Strong Leadership; and $17,668 by Texans for a Conservative Majority.  

Wiley Rein LLP  was paid $60,929 by the Congressional Leadership Fund. Venable LLP  was paid $46,129 by Michael Bloomberg’s Independence USA PAC during the month of December. Clark Hill PLC  was paid $38,753 by the Fund for Louisiana’s Future. Sandler Reiff Young & Lamb  was paid $45,617 by Ready for Hillary. Olson Hagel & Fishburn LLP  was paid $13,266 by CE Action Committee.  

Presidential campaigns  were also dealing with legal questions winding down their campaigns in the last quarter of 2013.  

Obama  for America paid $60,707 to Perkins Coie LLP. Romney  for President paid $33,553 to Patton Boggs LLP.  Bachmann  for President paid $39,948 to Briggs and Morgan. Ron Paul  2012 Presidential Campaign paid $22,955 to LeClair Ryan.
