Adelson Starts Moving 2014 Political Contributions
An American casino and resort operating company run by a major national Republican donor has contributed $200,000 to a Republican Section 527 Committee that supports state and local candidates.
In a new report covering January financial activity, the Republican State Leadership Committee, a Section 527 organization, reported Sheldon Adelson’s Las Vegas Sands Corporation contributed $200,000. Adelson is chairman and CEO of the gaming company. In 2013, the company gave $450,000 to the RSLC. In 2013, Adelson gave $1 million to the Republican Governors Association.
Adelson and his spouse, Dr. Miriam G Adelson, contributed $100,000,000 to super PACs and Section 527 committees in the 2011-2012 cycle. This included over $96.6 million to super PACs. The Adelson’s were the largest donors giving to super PACs in the 2011-2012 cycle. In that cycle, Adelson also gave $3 million to the Republican Governors Association, and $650,000 to American Solutions for Winning the Future.The Las Vegas Sands Corporation gave $150,000 to the RSLC. Forbes ranks Adelson as the 5th richest American.
Other major donors to the Republican State Leadership Committee in January were Wal-Mart Stores Inc. $100,000; and Eli Lilly & Company $135,000.
Other major donors to super PACs in January included David Masson (Versailles, Ky.) giving $100,000 to Freedomworks for America; and John L. Nau (CEO, Silver Eagle Distributors, Houston, TX) giving $100,000 to Texans for a Conservative Majority.
Also reported in January was Richard Uihlein (CEO, Uline) giving $250,000 to the super PAC Club for Growth Action on December 30th; and Lynde Uihlein (Time Out Enterprises/Brico Foundation president) giving $100,000 on December 31st to the super PAC America Votes Action Fund.
