Democratic National Committeewoman Debbie Dingell is expected to announce her candidacy for Michigan’s 12th District on Friday, according to multiple news outlets .

The news comes only a day after her husband, Rep. John D. Dingell, D-Mich., announced his retirement from the House after 29 full terms. Debbie Dingell was widely expected to make this decision, and Democrats have long viewed her as a likely candidate to succeed her husband.

However, several top Michigan Democrats told CQ Roll Call recently that other candidates could vie for the party’s nomination. Specifically, Democrats mention state Sen. Rebekah Warren as a potential candidate.

The 12th is rated Safe Democratic by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
