California Republican Tony Strickland raised more than $400,000 for his House bid in the first quarter, according to numbers provided first to CQ Roll Call.  

The former state senator, who is vying for California’s open 25th District seat, had $640,000 in cash on hand as of March 31. Strickland is one of eight candidates running in the June 3 top-two primary. They include state Sen. Steve Knight , a Republican, and podiatric surgeon Lee Rogers, a Democrat. The two highest vote recipients advance to the general election.  

Strickland ran last cycle in the neighboring 26th District but lost to now-Rep. Julia Brownley, D-Calif. The 25th, which GOP Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon is retiring from this year, voted for Mitt Romney by a 2-point margin in 2012.  

First-quarter fundraising reports, which cover the period from Jan. 1 to March 31, are due April 15 to the Federal Election Commission.
