Tony Strickland Up With First TV Ad in California House Contest
Former state Sen. Tony Strickland released his first ad in his bid for California’s open 25th District on Wednesday, laying out his priorities, including GOP favorites like repealing the Affordable Care Act, cutting spending and balancing the budget.
Strickland, a Republican, is one of a number of candidates seeking to succeed retiring Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, R-Calif. He will face GOP state Sen. Steve Knight , podiatrist Lee Rogers, a Democrat, and several other candidates in a June 3 top-two primary. The two candidates with the highest vote totals advance to the general election in November, regardless of party.

The 30-second ad will air on cable throughout the northern Los Angeles County-based district, according to Strickland’s campaign.
Strickland, who lost a House bid in 2012 to now-Rep. Julia Brownley in the nearby 26th District, initially declared for a rematch with Brownley in 2013. But Strickland switched to the 25th District after McKeon announced his retirement this year.
In the first three months of the year, Strickland raised $411,000, according to his first-quarter filing with the Federal Election Commission . He ended the quarter with $656,000 in the bank.
Knight raised $90,000, and reported $97,000 in cash on hand. Rogers brought in $204,000 and reported $261,000 cash on hand.
Democrats are targeting the 25th District for a pick-up. GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney carried the district in 2012 by a 2-point margin.
California’s 25th District is rated a Republican Favored contest by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
