Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. was expected to meet with a congressional delegation of members in Ukraine on Monday to discuss the unrest in the region and how the United States can support Ukraine’s independence.

As part of a larger tour of the area, Biden planned to meet with House Foreign Affairs Chairman Ed Royce, R-Calif., and ranking member Eliot L. Engel, D-N.Y., as well as other members of both parties who are touring the area.

In a statement announcing the trip, Royce said he intends the delegation as a show of U.S. support for the country, and also noted it is an opportunity “at this critical time to take a measure of the Obama administration’s efforts to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty.”

Also expected to attend were Foreign Affairs Committee members Ted Poe, R-Texas, David Cicilline, D-R.I., Alan Lowenthal, D-Calif., and Lois Frankel, R-Fla., as well as Rep. Jim Gerlach, R-Pa., a member of the Ways and Means Committee, and Rep. Mike Quigley, D-Ill., a member of the Appropriations Committee.
