Mitt Romney has endorsed former Bush administration aide Elise Stefanik’s bid for an open House seat less than a month before her competitive primary.  

Stefanik worked on Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign assisting his running mate, Rep. Paul D. Ryan, R-Wis., with debate preparations. Ryan endorsed Stefanik earlier this year. “After working with Elise, I know she will make the 21st District proud and she will deliver results,” Romney said in a statement released Tuesday morning. “Elise understands the needs of small businesses and how to grow the local economy. She is a person of integrity. Every campaign is different, but values don’t change.”  

Stefanik is running against attorney Matt Doheny in the June 24 primary.  

The presumptive Democratic nominee is filmmaker Aaron Woolf.  

The seat is open because Rep. Bill Owens, D-N.Y., is retiring.  

New York’s 21st District is rated Tossup by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
