Former Congresswoman Loans $500,000 to Her Comeback Campaign
Former Rep. Nan Hayworth, R-N.Y., has injected hundreds of thousands of dollars into her campaign to defeat freshman Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, D-N.Y.
In addition to raising $256,000, Hayworth loaned her campaign $500,000. The combined haul is three-quarters of a million dollars, according to a campaign spokesman. When factoring in her loan, her campaign haul exceeded the $550,000 that Maloney raised in the second quarter. She still lags in cash on hand; Maloney’s camp said he had $1.75 million at the end of the quarter, while Hayworth will report $1.07 million in the bank.
Both candidates had campaign fundraising jumps since they filed their June 4 pre-primary finance reports.
Hayworth is one of several Republican candidates this cycle who have the capacity to self-fund their efforts .
New York’s 18th District is rated a Safe Democratic contest by the Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
