Poll: Majority Finds Boehner Lawsuit ‘Political Stunt’
A new survey from a Democrat-associated polling firm has found that 51 percent of respondents say Speaker John A. Boehner’s lawsuit against the president is a “political stunt.”
Americans United for Change paid for the automated survey , conducted by Public Policy Polling, which asked 1,161 registered voters if the lawsuit was a “legitimate suit” or a “political stunt.” More than half the respondents said political stunt, while 41 percent said it was a legitimate suit. Eight percent of respondents said they weren’t sure. The survey also asked voters if the lawsuit would make them more or less likely to vote Republican in the fall. The poll found that 30 percent said it would make them more likely to vote Republican, 46 percent said less likely, while 23 percent said it wouldn’t make a difference and one percent said they weren’t sure.
The poll doesn’t exactly frame the lawsuit in the best light. For instance, voters are told the lawsuit could cost millions of dollars, then asked if they think that’s a good use of taxpayer money — 36 percent say it is, while 56 percent say it is a waste.
Respondents were also asked if they think Congress should be “more focused on suing the president or on taking action to create jobs.” On that question, 30 percent said suing the president took priority while 63 percent said creating jobs.
The survey was conducted July 11 to 13. The margin of error is 2.9 percent.
