Oil, Gas Industry Leaders Seek to Address Drilling Benefits

The Midland (TX) Reporter-Telegram reports that “the backlash against oil and gas activities from Denton, Texas, to Boulder, Colo., means that the industry needs to do a much better job telling the public about the benefits of today’s drilling boom, executives and state leaders say.”

“A fight over potential drilling restrictions – and whether local communities have the right to impose outright bans on the activity – served as the backdrop last week for an energy summit in Denver, where much of the discussion focused on how the industry can win public trust.”
“‘It takes a tremendous education process to convince people what this shale revolution – both gas and oil – has done for this country,’ said Scott Sheffield, CEO of Irving, Texas-based Pioneer Natural Resources. ‘The industry is still not doing its job in regard to educating 317 million people in the United States about what we have done and accomplished in the past 6 years (and) this game-changing revolution.'”
