Sen. Dean Heller has issued a challenge to his Democratic counterpart from Nevada.

The Republican has challenged Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., to grow a beard in honor of the sesquicentennial of the Silver State. It’s a challenge that Heller said Reid did not accept, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal .

Heller explained to reporters in Nevada that he was growing a beard for the 150th anniversary, as his father had done 50 years before. Heller mentioned he had said this to a crowd at a previous event.

“And Harry was there,” Heller said Monday in Sparks, according to the RGJ’s Ray Hagar. “And I challenged Harry to do the same thing. He looked at me [and said], ‘No way, not a chance.'”
