DSCC Topped NRSC in August Fundraising

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee announced Tuesday it raised $7.7 million in August, topping its Republican counterpart and bringing its total raised for the cycle to more than $111 million.

With spending on independent-expenditure advertising and a field operation picking up, the DSCC ended last month with more than $25 million in cash on hand. The National Republican Senatorial Committee announced last week bringing in $6.1 million and ending August with $19.9 million on hand. While conceding national Democrats hold a financial advantage, Republicans have said they’ll have the money necessary to pick up the six seats needed to win the majority.

Thanks in part to the fundraising ability of President Barack Obama, who headlined yet another fundraiser for the committee Monday night, the DSCC has brought in some $29 million more than the NRSC this cycle.

The $100,000-a-ticket fundraiser Monday was a dinner and roundtable discussion at the Jefferson Hotel in downtown Washington. It featured Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and DSCC Chairman Michael Bennet.
