Scott Weaver to Head Public Policy Practice at Wiley Rein | Downtown Moves
Scott Weaver has been promoted to lead the day-to-day operations of the Public Policy Practice at Wiley Rein LLP. Weaver previously served as the firm’s senior public policy adviser and will serve as co-chair of the Practice Group along with ex-Rep. Jim Slattery, D-Kan., who joined the firm in 2009. Weaver said the firm has traditional strengths in government contracts, trade, health care, telecommunications and insurance. “We hope to add additional capabilities in the national security, energy, tax, oversight and investigations, and transportation sectors, as well as foreign affairs,” he said in an email to CQ Roll Call. Weaver joined the firm in 2009 after serving as the vice president of Government and Political Affairs for Airports Council International – North America. Prior to that, he served as chief of staff for ex-Rep. Katherine Harris, R-Fla., and as a policy advisor for ex-Rep. John Sullivan, R-Okla. He has worked on Republican House, Senate, gubernatorial and presidential races. Weaver joined Sullivan’s office in 2003, going to work for the Oklahoman at the age of 24, after working stints for the National Association of Home Builders and Stateside Associates. The Bethesda, Md., native graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2001 with bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina in 2001.
