OK Go Aims to Help Drone Lobby Take Off
Is your office abuzz about unmanned aircraft systems? Allow OK Go to set your mind at ease about making the most of miniature flying contraptions during a pro-drone tutorial at the 9:30 Club (815 V St. NW).
Those interested in the eye-in-the-sky movement are welcome Wednesday to participate in the “Know Before You Fly ” campaign’s star-studded rollout. The program is scheduled to feature a 90-minute presentation, followed by a mini-concert by OK Go — which utilized drones to capture the action channeled into the music video for its song, “I Won’t Let You Down.”
A spokesman for the nascent Small UAV Coalition told HOH the group is excited about highlighting the advantages of this emerging technology with members of Congress, their staff and recreational users.
“We really want to do some branding about what UAVs can do,” the event organizer said.
The trade group, which coalesced last summer, was expected to lay the foundation for its first real political outreach by having industry representatives (hardware manufacturers, software developers) fly drones all over the National Press Club Tuesday.
Coalition members plan to follow up on the public relations push by dropping in for meetings on Capitol Hill and huddling with folks at the Federal Aviation Administration.
Any Hill staffers planning to catch just the OK Go portion of the program, which is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m., are obliged to pay $25 for a “ticket ” to the show. Attendance at the preceding demonstration is free of charge.
