Jerry Moran Kicks Off 2016 Cycle With $1.4 Million War Chest

Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., has more than $1 million in his war chest heading into the 2016 campaign cycle, when he faces re-election.

According to fundraising numbers provided exclusively to CQ Roll Call, Moran raised $484,000 in the 4th quarter of 2014. He has $1.4 million cash on hand. Moran, who served as the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee in 2014, has not publicly announced his 2016 plans, but sources say he intends to seek re-election.

No one has yet announced they will challenge Moran, either in the Republican primary or the general election. Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Kan., considered taking on Moran but told CQ Roll Call earlier this month his wife nixed the idea . Some Kansans speculated Milton Wolf, a doctor who unsuccessfully ran against senior Sen. Pat Roberts in the 2016 Republican primary, might consider challenging Moran.

Moran would be favored to win re-election against either candidate. But Kansas politics have been tumultuous over the past several years. Last cycle, Roberts won re-election after a pitched battle against independent candidate Greg Orman.
