When the House Freedom Caucus comes along, you must whip it. When a close vote’s held open on the floor too long, you must whip it. Whip it good.

These might not be the actual words to the infamous 1980 masterpiece by Devo, but GOP Reps. Steve Scalise and Patrick T. McHenry are welcome to borrow from HOH’s mediocre parody lyrics when touting their new fundraising operation, which is named for the song’s seminal refrain. Over the weekend, the majority whip and chief deputy whip launched a joint political action committee called “Whip It Good,” which will raise money for their respective congressional campaigns and leadership PACs.

Both lawmakers are still relatively new to the whip operation, catapulting into the ranks last August. It’s been a rough couple months for the men, who have at times had to recalibrate vote counts, pull bills from the floor and convene emergency conference meetings.

Maybe all they’ve been missing is a motivational theme song to get them in the groove — or at least one that’s cute enough to get donors to open up their wallets as rewards for congressional leaders’ creativity.

Scalise actually already has a leadership PAC that shares a title with a 1980s power anthem — “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor — though he swears it was actually named for his alma mater, the Louisiana State University Tigers.
