With his lengthy history in public service, Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander is bound to have plenty of tales to tell. He’ll get the chance Sunday when a special on his career airs as part of the American Artifacts series on C-SPAN’s American History TV.

The Republican governor turned Education secretary turned presidential hopeful turned senator will recall stories about his relationships with past presidents “from Richard Nixon to Bill Clinton,” as well as the political memorabilia that decorates his Capitol Hill office, according to a preview of the show. The senator announced the upcoming special in an email to supporters Friday. It will air at 6 p.m. Sunday on C-SPAN 3.

Alexander will discuss his own political history, including his successful 1978 gubernatorial campaign, when he walked 1,000 miles across Tennessee. From January to July, a band followed him as he trekked through snowstorms and the streets to meet voters.

“It affected everything about my political career,” Alexander recalls in the released clip. “I don’t think I would have been elected without it, because it gave me a personality, or story, that people paid attention to.”
