Pelosi: Investigate the Makers of the Planned Parenthood Videos (Video)

Following the release of a controversial hidden-camera video, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi doesn’t buy the need to look into Planned Parenthood and the alleged sale of fetal tissue. In fact, with revelations the video was somewhat misleadingly edited, Pelosi thinks it’s time there’s an investigation into the makers of the clip.
“Everybody’s calling for an investigation into Planned Parenthood,” the California Democrat said Thursday. “Let’s have an investigation of those people who were trying ensnare Planned Parenthood in a controversy that doesn’t exist.” The California Democrat said Republicans had been out to get Planned Parenthood “for as long as I can remember,” and she took issue with how the video had been edited, specifically pointing out that a discussion over the cost of shipping the fetal tissue had been arranged to make it seem as if Planned Parenthood was selling fetal body parts, which is against the law.

The anti-abortion group Center for Medical Progress released its first video on July 14. That clip showed Dr. Deborah Nucatola, Planned Parenthood’s senior director of medical services, discussing how abortions can be performed in different ways, under the guidance of an ultrasound, to preserve different fetal organs. The original video also seems to show Nucatola discussing different prices — $30 to $100 — for different organs, such as a liver or lungs.
But the full two-hour-and-forty-two minute video shows those prices were for shipping the fetal tissue. Still, the tone of the video — Nucatola discusses body parts in between bites of salad — offended plenty of Republicans, and the initial outrage from the anti-abortion community triggered two congressional committees to look into Planned Parenthood practices.
