Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal announced Tuesday he is ending his presidential bid, after failing to gain traction in the large GOP primary field.

“This is not my time, so I am suspending my campaign for President,” Jindal said in a statement.

Jindal’s team had hoped the former congressman and two-term governor, who made religious freedom a tenet of his campaign, could gain traction in the early state of Iowa, where evangelical voters are key in the state’s first-in-the-nation caucuses.

But Jindal is currently hovering at just 3 percent in the polls in the Hawkeye State, with no sign his numbers would increase.

With his exit, the GOP primary field now stands at 14 candidates.
