Former Republican Rep. Sandy Adams announced Wednesday she is suspending her campaign for Congress in Florida’s 6th District “due to health-related developments.”

“I recently discovered a significant health issue that demands my focus and attention,” she said in in a statement. “Over the next several weeks, I will be focusing on my health and will reassess my campaign to determine if I can give it a 100% commitment. I owe that to my family, and to the residents of the 6th District.” Adams, who lost her re-election bid in 2012 after one term, is one of three Republicans – including Adam Barringer and G.G. Galloway – who have filed to run for the Republican nomination to replace Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis, who is vacating the seat to run for Sen. Marco Rubio’s open Senate seat.

No Democrat has filed for this district, rated Safe Republican by the Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report /Roll Call.
